8966 : Rhodesian Air Force Paratroop Despatcher wings, camo dress
1979 – 1980
Material: Cloth, printed
Near mint
Rhodesia Air Force Parachute Dispatcher wings, camo dress, introduced late in the Rhodesian Bush War for the few Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI) and Rhodesian Air Force paratroopers who completed the Despatcher Course, very few made, little glue residue on the back, otherwise mint condition, removed from a display board, very scarce.
After speaking to one of the qualified despatchers he said there was only one batch of these wings made during 1979, see his course photo attached for reference, photo not included in sale. As far as is known, only the Air Force Despatchers wore this wing, on their sleeve. There is no evidence that these wings were awarded to RLI qualified Despatchers.
There were no official Dress Uniform Paratroop Dispatcher wings made, just one, that is known, that was privately made in bullion wire, and worn unofficially. (Parachutist / Dispatcher)
Note: there is a very good fake of this wing, printed on a lighter tan backing material.
