German and Austrian Alpine Association Edelweiss membership badge.
The Deutsch Österreichischer Alpenverein (DÖAV) was a combined mountaineering organization for German and Austrian members aiming to spread knowledge of the Alps, promote mountaineering, and maintain a network of mountain huts and hiking trails.
Following the annexation of Austria in 1938, the organization was restructured and eventually split into two separate entities, the Deutscher Alpenverein (DAV) in Germany and the Oesterreichischer Alpenverein (OeAV) in Austria.
