South African Silver War Badge for Services Rendered, numbered SA9644
The Silver War Badge, often called the “Services Rendered” badge, was issued in the UK and British Empire to Military and Merchant Navy personnel honourably discharged due to sickness or wounds in World War I. First issued in September 1916, it was designed to show that a person was discharged with honour, to prevent them from being accused of avoiding service.
Also known as the Discharge Badge, Wound Badge, or Services Rendered Badge.
