The beginning of the British South Africa Police came on 15th August, 1885, at Barkly West (near Kimberley) when enrolment commenced for what was named the Bechuanaland Border Police. The Warren Expedition had just concluded its task of pacifying the disturbed no-mans-land where the frontiers of the Cape Colony, the South African Republic (Transvaal), and the territory of the Botswana tribes met in a confusion of claims and political rivalries. .
